About Me

My name is Steph Wood and my love of fitness started in 2011 when I discovered that an office job wasn't for me! I became a group fitness instructor teaching a variety of fitness classes, including Zumba, spin, and Les Mills BodyPump. During my three years at university in Leeds I taught at a variety of gyms and became a qualified personal trainer. I left with a first class undergraduate degree in Sport, Physical Activity and Health, moved back to Hexham and continued my studies at Northumbria University where I achieved a postgraduate diploma in Strength and Conditioning.

I worked as the Strength and Conditioning Coach at The Chiropractic Clinic in Ashington which gave me the opportunity to work with people suffering from chronic conditions including lower back pain, hip and knee replacements and hamstring and patella tendinopathy. There are so many health conditions that can be improved or even cured with the right exercise programme, it is so undervalued as a treatment! My work at the Training Lab (part of the clinic) has also given me the chance to work with amateur athletes, including implementing a new strength programme for the Morpeth Harriers sprint group and helping to analyse runners' technique to identify imbalances that could be causing injuries.

In October 2019 I opened the SW Fitness Private Gym on Haugh Lane Industrial Estate in Hexham, after operating as a mobile Personal Trainer for 2 years. This means that I can give my clients the best service possible, with access to all the best equipment, without the intimidation of a  public gym setting.

So far I have worked with some amazing people who have achieved fantastic results and I'm loving every minute of it. I can't wait to see what the next few years will bring for myself and my existing and future clients!
